Creating meaningful relations and a strong network is one of the key for a successful business.

This is especially true for us, women entrepreneurs, dealing with many social roles, expectations and gender bias and daily struggling with life balance issues…. we have all been there!

Networking is really crucial to us. Surrounding ourselves of people, who can support and assist us in the delicate process of cultivating our business surely is a winning strategy: it helps us to look with external eyes at our creature and define the best way forward to make it grow.

There is a Swahili proverb saying “Umoja ni nguvu, utengano ni udhaifu”, which literally means “Unity is strength, disunity is weakness”, that is the equivalent of the English “Many hands make light work”.

Our community is dedicated to you, women entrepreneurs in the handmade sector, based in East Africa with the aim of:

  • supporting each other

  • networking

  • sharing experiences, contacts and information

  • developing and evolving together

  • building the handmade and handcraft ecosysistem in Tanzania and East Africa

LEARN THE BASICS OF EXPORTING WITH MY EBOOK

In all these years working with handcraft producers and handmade brands in Tanzania, I have been amazed in seeing the changes that access to technology has brought to micro and small entrepreneurs: thanks to social media like Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp, even a very small producer living in a very remote area is now able to access to international markets and sell abroad.

This is definitively a positive change: it’s what we can call the democratic side of technology.

However, on the other side, this easy way of carrying business, has also some hidden risks that you, as an entrepreneur, need to address.

By approaching the export world, especially as a wholesaler, you necessarily need a shift of mindset; selling to international buyers, shops and retailers, in fact, is not the same thing than selling to a final consumer and this is quite intuitive: leaving aside all the implications in customers’ targeting (which requires a whole eBook by itself!), it’s a matter of approach. How do you talk to the customers? Which basic tools do you need? Which information will the customer want? What is the best shipping option? Which documents do you need?

This eBook, completely based on my experience, is a basic tool aiming at helping you to understand the necessary, unavoidable steps you need to take to export: it is not meant to be exhaustive and complete, but just to give you the compulsory basics to prepare your activity for the export market, by sharing with you all the information that I have collected in these years and by helping you to avoid all the mistakes I have done and the hard times I have gone through.

JOIN THE WOMEN HANDMADE HUB

Many local producers, when getting stuck in growing and expanding their business, believe they are just missing access to sales platforms and international customers. However, very rarely this is the real problem and this truth especially shows up in the hardest way, when they finally receive a huge export order, that they fail to fulfill…. believe me, it happens more often than you can think!

In the Women Handmade Hub we have chosen a hybrid approach, which mixes online and offline workshops with experts from different sectors like marketing, design, product development, production, sales, social media, quality control, work/life balance, story telling and many others to support you become export ready, by working on all the main aspects of your business.
